1. Re-read the Author’s Apology.
A. What do we
learn of Bunyan’s character?
B. What does he have to say about evangelism?
Give some examples of what he says about evangelism? Read Matt 16:10 Do you
think he is right? Why or why not? Do
these principles give you “food for thought” with regard to any unsaved friends
or loved ones?
C. In his defense of the style of his writing,
what does Bunyan have to say about the literary style of the Bible?(what
literary devices does Bunyan use that he says are good to use because they are
used in the Word of God?) Can you find some examples of these?
Read
IISam 7:1-17 and your favorite parable for some examples.
2. Read pgs. 10-26 in Pilgrim’s Progress.
A. Make a list of all the characters you meet
in these pages, and a word or two that Bunyan uses to describe or define them.
B. Bunyan’s desire in literary style is to NOT
smother truth, but to illuminate it. What
truth (if any) is illuminated in this section.
